Founded by real estate pioneers, Alfred and Doris Kaskel in the late 1950s, they combined their names and called the 2,400 acres of swampland the City Doral.

In 1962 he lured golfers to partake in the first Doral Open Invitational and offered the winner $50,000 prize. At the time there were only three other tournaments in Florida and combined they granted the winner a total of $65,000 according to the South Florida Golf Foundation. Today is known as Trump National Doral Golf Club, one of U.S. President Donald Trump’s favorite resorts.

Kaskel’s grandson Bill in early 1980s developed Doral Estates and in a joint venture with Lennar Corporation together they built Doral Park. Both developments were named after The Doral Hotel the Kaskels had built on Miami Beach. It was not until the ban was lifted to protect the area’s water wells that the area experienced growth. They started a Homeowners Association and young families including the Miami Dade Police Department who chose to make Doral their home.

In 1995 residents wanted a city of their own and wanted to incorporate. Dissatisfied with taxes and the deferral of the year towards their first attempt to incorporate, the community elected Jose “Pepe” Cancio Sr., Mario Pita and Barbara B. Thomas who met once a every month.

In 2002, Gov. Jeb Bush appointed Cancio to take the controversial seat of Miriam Alonso who was arrested for corruption charges after a brief investigation into her campaign signage led authorities to find more than they hoped for. Her husband Leonel, 70 and Alonso were charged with grand theft, fabricating evidence, perjury, solicitation charges and exploiting her official position as councilwoman of Miami Dade County.

By 2005 Doral had over 10,000 business and Carnival Cruise Lines was no stranger to the city along with Univision and Ryder the moved their headquarters to the booming town in addition to Benihana, Perry Ellis International, Airline Grupo TACA, Hellman Worldwide Logistics,  and Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta Miami Branch Office.

Kim Delaney made the City of Doral shine after his debut again on national television gained ground in 2002 when CBS launched CSI Miami. Some of the episodes were filed at the CBS Doral Studies which is owned by affiliate W-FOR-TV or local Miami Channel 4.

In 2006 Miami Dade College made headlines in Doral when they moved to Doral and opened its West Campus. The campus begun construction in 2012 and in October of the same year garage collapsed and killed 4 construction workers. By the Fall the same year, TESLA collaborated with the campus and college to create a program for students who would have guaranteed employment as Field Technicians.
